Description
The 'Gathering' Necklace
The ‘Gathering’ necklace connects bronze, wood and an amber bead supporting each other. The 18″ chain weaves through the bronze shaped tool. The bronze focal measures 2″ long x 3/4″ wide. The textured hollow bead reduces the weight of a metal bead. It connects to a piece of very old wood shaped in a cylinder. An amber bead finished the necklace.
The Gathering Necklace serves to remind us of the different textures, colors and purposes in play when we ‘gather.’ Gathering – throughout the ages.
Making of the 'Gathering' Necklace
The textured bronze bead shows the value of using metal clay. This bead, made of clay, was textured and constructed as a layer. The sides meld together instead of being a solid bead. Because Linda wants to show ‘gathering’ as a combination of materials, she added an old wood bead and a small amber bead.
Linda creates many of her pieces with metal clay, microfilaments of metal mixed with a binder to form a clay. The jewelry piece is formed, dried, sanded and fired in a hot kiln. During that process the binder burns away and the microfilaments of metal fuse together. The finished product of metal(in this case a combination of bronze and steel) receives polishing and a coating of a rust/tarnish resistant finish.
All metal will tarnish with time. The coating keeps that to a minimum. Clean with a soft cloth.
The story behind the Ancient Influences Collection
Throughout time men and women adorn themselves for a variety of reasons. We chose wood, metal, shells, glass, and gems – almost anything that captured imagination so that we could dream. The Ancient Influences Collection continues the past and becomes a part of today’s dream.
This Ancient Influences Jewelry Collection is based on feelings and actions that exist through time. The names of individual pieces include bundling, loving, gathering and sharing because they reflect ancient values as well as today.
