Golden  Pheasant Bird Sculpture

Understanding about a bird while sculpting a moment in the bird’s life is of utmost importance.  It makes all the difference in believability and connection with the artist and the sculpture.

The Golden Pheasants, some of the most beautiful birds, also called the Chinese Pheasant or Rainbow Pheasant, are lively and energetic.  This sculpture catches the bird at a moment of food foraging.

The Golden Pheasant male grabs  attention because of his bright colors, golden crest and the red color in his under parts.  The artist captures the proportion of the tail to the body.  In real life the bird’s tail is 2/3 the length of the body.  The wing span is about 27”.  The pheasants are clumsy fliers but fast runners!  More information in the following website:  https://animalia.bio/golden-pheasant

These are really interesting birds to study and presented several challenges to sculpt.

Detail of the tail of the Golden Pheasant

The long tail of the Golden Pheasant is made and baked separately.  The tail is added through a slot to the finished bird.  The scale of the bird was dependent on the size of the oven for curing.

This sculpture adds beauty to any room décor.  It can be used outside in a protected space keeping in mind that freezing temperatures could cause cracking and extreme heat could soften and sag.

The process to make this bird takes about 40 hours and there is only one!  He could belong to you….
